Function and Scope
Team Leader and Senior Medical Instructor for a modern, forward-looking military with a broad range of domestic and operational tasks. This new medical training capability will be centered on pre-hospital care and will train combat lifesavers and medics in tactical combat casualty care, primary health care, battlefield nursing, medical emergencies and major incident management. Our medical training will be mission focused, up-to-date and pitched to ensure graduates are appropriately prepared for their prospective working environments.
General attributes
We are looking for military medical instructors with a sound and contemporary knowledge base, backed by on-the-job experience (including recent operational deployments), who have the capacity to put their skills and knowledge to practical use. Initiative, independent thinking, enthusiasm, cultural awareness and excellent communication skills are essential.
Duties and responsibilities
As a Lead Medical Instructor, the individual will oversee a small team of clinicians, instructors and translators. They will lead the planning, personnel and facilities management, and logistics aspects of their division. They will also oversee a high tempo training program that includes didactic and practical skills lessons, high fidelity simulation and scenario-based training activities. Training will include primary qualification courses and a range of recertification, instructor training, and assessor courses.
Other responsibilities include:
Ongoing design, delivery, revision and validation of training courses.
Providing subject matter expertise to the wider organisation.
Mentoring junior leaders and instructors.
Maintaining medical qualifications (as appropriate).
Continuing professional development (for self and team).
Maintaining knowledge of latest medical literature as it pertains to subject courses.
Assisting in the development of medical policy, doctrine, protocols and guidelines.
Maintaining a high standard of physical fitness, appearance and bearing in accordance with the organisation’s requirements for employees.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Previous/retired Military Medical Officer (O4 minimum).
Fellowship of General Practice, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or equivalent.
Post-graduate clinical qualification in emergency or pre-hospital medicine.
Expertise in tactical combat casualty care.
Expertise in remote primary health care.
Experience in supervising military medics.
Military combat medic or combat lifesaver instructional experience.
Military operational experience in a Coalition environment (ideally within the last 5 years).
Experience in small teams providing remote medical support to operational units.
Expertise in IT, software and data management systems.
Desirable:
Special forces experience.
Recent staff officer postings.
Experience in providing direct and remote clinical supervision to combat medics.
Experience in military medical training in the Middle East region.
Experience in leading medical instructors in the management and delivery of combat medical courses.
Experience in a broad range of clinical environments, military postings and operational settings.
