The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying and fostering a relationship with our suppliers and vendors. You will also oversee the implementation of the supply and production strategies.
Responsibilities:
Business Development
Finding new markets in Nigeria.
Develop agency agreements.
Introduce new verticals: paint, oil & gas. etc
Developing new suppliers and increasing the turnover.
Procurement Strategy:
Develop and implement an effective procurement strategy for chemicals (Detergent, Solvents, Polymers, Paints & Coatings, Cosmetics, Food additives and Sulphur) in line with the company objectives and budget.
Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and select the most suitable ones.
Stay updated with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements related to the chemicals market. Supplier Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaboration and ensuring the availability of high-quality chemicals.
Negotiate contracts, pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to achieve favorable terms and cost savings.
Monitor supplier performance, conduct regular supplier evaluations, and implement corrective actions when necessary. Procurement Process Optimization:
Streamline the procurement process by implementing best practices and utilizing procurement tools and technologies.
Continuously monitor and improve the efficiency of procurement operations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process enhancements.
Develop and maintain procurement policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Trade Finance and Shipping:
Collaborate with the finance team to manage trade finance activities, including letters of credit, bank guarantees, and payment terms negotiations.
Coordinate with shipping and logistics providers to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of chemicals, while optimizing shipping costs.
Manage import/export documentation and ensure compliance with international trade regulations. Inventory Management:
Collaborate with trading and manufacturing teams to forecast demand, determine optimal inventory levels, and ensure the availability of chemicals. Regular travel to Nigeria is required.
Implement inventory control measures to minimize stockouts, reduce carrying costs, and optimize inventory turnover.
Identify market trends to advise divisions on quantity and time of purchase to ensure seamless movement of product.
Attending international exhibitions, Trade fairs, and Chemical conferences. etc.
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain, such as supply disruptions, quality issues, or regulatory compliance challenges.
Implement contingency plans to manage unexpected events that may impact the procurement and supply of chemicals.
Coordinate with the shipping team to understand shipping trends and disruptions to manage landed costs and timely arrival of goods.
Qualifications and Requirements:
MBA from a reputed institute, Chemical Engineering Degree preferred.
Proven experience of at least 5 years in procurement or purchasing, specifically within the chemicals and trading industry in an international environment.
Strong negotiation and contract management skills
Deep understanding of the chemicals market, including knowledge of various chemical types, grades, and specifications.
Good knowledge of letters of credit/ shipping containers and break bulk.
UK-USA-Canada passport or long-term multiple entry Schengen visa would be extra advantages
