HENSOLDT South Africa, a leading company in the defense and security industry, is currently seeking a Research and Development Engineering Manager to join our team in South Africa. As the Research and Development Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing internal research and technology activities within the Engineering department. You will oversee R&D projects for external customers, working closely with the Programmes and Bids department to ensure successful project delivery. Your responsibilities will include identifying project risks, implementing mitigation strategies, reporting project progress at monthly finance reviews, and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors for project execution.
In addition to project management duties, you will be involved in general management tasks such as compiling Product Roadmaps with stakeholders, managing the R&D budget, coordinating White Papers and Technical notes between Engineering and Marketing departments, as well as fostering collaboration with universities for student vacation work programs. Operational management responsibilities will involve structuring a suitable hardware and software development environment, implementing R&D development processes with Engineering managers, managing workload distribution and priorities within the department, maintaining a skills matrix for all R&D engineers, participating in recruitment processes, conducting performance appraisals, and determining technical training requirements.
To qualify for this position, you must have a minimum BEng Electronic or Computer Engineering degree (preferably with formal project management training) along with a minimum of 8 years (preferably 10 years) of experience in operational and technical project management within a high-technology R&D environment. Strong leadership experience is also required.
