As the Vice President of Engineering, you will play a crucial role in leading our technical team during a pivotal growth phase. This position primarily involves management responsibilities, focusing on expanding the team from 10 to 100 members, establishing team structures, recruiting new talent, and implementing best practices for performance evaluations and engineering excellence.

Your key responsibilities will include building and scaling a top-tier engineering team geared towards high performance, developing efficient processes for engineering productivity, quality assurance, and collaboration. You will collaborate closely with the leadership team to align technological strategies with business objectives, establish performance review systems for teams and individuals, and ensure operational efficiency within a fast-paced startup environment. While this role does not entail hands-on coding tasks predominantly, familiarity with the codebase and occasional pull requests will be expected.

The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced leader with a proven track record in VP of Engineering or similar positions who has successfully scaled teams from 10 to over 100 engineers. A strong technical background is essential, preferably with expertise in Java and/or Node.js. Previous experience at YC startups, FAANG companies, Stanford/MIT-affiliated organizations or similar high-growth tech environments is highly valued. Additionally, being structured, process-oriented, people-centric with excellent hiring skills are vital qualities we seek in potential candidates. A willingness to undergo an MBTI test as part of the evaluation process for team alignment is required. Candidates located outside North or South America must be willing to work Pacific Time (PST) hours due to time zone flexibility requirements.
